Zero

If you want to enumerate all the amazing San Francisco Bay Area rock, fusion, and jam bands that have played a role in the region’s storied musical history, you might want to start your count with Zero.

Nothing’s like Zero. Forty years ago, guitarist Steve Kimock and drummer Greg Anton went into a studio and recorded what was to become the inception of the repertoire for the band Zero. As one of the innovators of improvisational jam band music, Zeroi s a Bay Area musical institution. The band has played more than 1,300 concerts across the country, being joined onstage by such luminaries as Jerry Garcia, John Cipollina, Derek Trucks, Martin Fierro, Nicky Hopkins, and John Kahn.

The traditional present for a thirty year wedding anniversary is pearls, because they are something that is extra special and take time to grow.

Zero | Wow Hall | 7/30/2022

What an amazing night of light, love, and Zero at the WOW Hall in Eugene OR. Zero is an accomplished band from the Bay Area, yet our tribe considers them to be one of our own, considering them our local family band.

Zero has announced their new album Naught Again will have its High Fidelity Double-Vinyl LP release on September 2, 2022 via Omnivore Recordings. Released on CD and digital earlier this year, the record consists of performances newly mixed by Emmy-nominated producer/engineer Brian Risner from the original multi-track tapes recorded by Dan Healy (Grateful Dead) in 1992 at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco.

When one first hears Zero, whether it was back in the 80’s or last fall, the immediate thought is, “How have I never heard about these guys?” And then considering the next thing you’ll want to do is share it with a friend, you’ll once again wonder, “How have I never heard about these guys?” Regardless of whether you haven’t heard of them, or haven’t spread their music to your friends enough, with the release of Naught Again, there is no better time than now to dive into the ocean of phenomenal music that is Zero.

Zero returns to the stage this summer and fall, and that’s very good news for fans of improvisational music.  The list of shows is below.

Zero, one of the creators of improvisational jam band music and a band that became a San Francisco musical institution, is pleased to release a new live double album, Naught Again. It is a super-high-fidelity recording of previously unreleased tracks from an epic three-night-run at the Great American Music Hall in 1992.

Zero was formed in the early 1980s by guitarist Steve Kimock and drummer Greg Anton after playing with Keith & Donna Godchaux’s Heart Of Gold Band. Various San Francisco Bay and international artists have played with Zero, including Nicky Hopkins (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who) Pete Sears (Jefferson Starship), John Cipollina (Quicksilver Messenger Service), John Kahn (Jerry Garcia Band), and Vince Welnick (The Tubes, Grateful Dead).
