Forget the spring-cleaning metaphors. Though Jon Dee Graham chose Garage Sale as the title of his June 28 release on Freedom Records, the 11 songs it contains are anything but cast-offs. It’s just that, unlike the tracks on his seven previous solo releases, they weren’t carefully written in advance, clustered around a theme, then recorded at breakneck speed.

Today the music world suffered a bittersweet loss. Levon Helm’s battle with cancer ended this afternoon after a long tough fight. A message was posted on his website written by his wife Sandy and his daughter Amy requesting everyone’s “love and prayers” earlier in the week. Levon has been battling with throat cancer since 1998. Levon Helm was the beloved drummer and vocalist for The Band.
Steve Kimock embarks on his first major tour in three years, hitting markets across the Eastern seaboard and American Midwest this spring. To accompany him on stage for the tour, Kimock has hand-picked an all-star cast including Woo Wizard Bernie Worrell (Parliament Funkadelic, Talking Heads) on keys, Wally Ingram (Sheryl Crow, David Lindley) on drums, and bassists Andy Hess (Gov't Mule, Black Crowes) and Reed Mathis (Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Tea Leaf Green).
