Illinois-based Cody “Chicago Farmer” Diekhof paired up with Texas’ The Band of Heathens for Flyover Country, independently released February 7. With DJs across the country spinning many of the songs from the album, it is climbing up the Americana and Folk radio charts in an increasingly competitive landscape. In the past few weeks the album shot up to #18 after debuting at #33 on the Americana Radio Albums Chart and is currently at #9 on the NACC Folk Radio Chart.
The Folk Americana Roots Hall of Fame (FARHOF), announces its Winter/Spring 2020 schedule of Hallways -- the Hall’s official podcast -- airing weekly beginning in February. The series includes in depth, personal interviews with Folk, Americana, and Roots artists like Patty Griffin, Ani DiFranco, Tom Rush, Keb' Mo', Milk Carton Kids and The Mammals.

Ike Willis (Frank Zappa) and Marcus Rezak (Shred is Dead, Gateway to the Galaxy) have assembled an all-star cast aka “The Brothers of Invention” featuring David Nolden, Scott Hannay, and Matt Kellen to perform the music of Frank Zappa and more across the Pacific Northwest February 26-29 with an additional Chicago play on March 5th.

Who influenced who? I wasn’t introduced to The Band until after maybe my fifth Dead show. For me, this was the 90’s, still just a teenager. The popular music at that time, in my opinion, was nowhere near the caliber of the iconic bluegrass, folk, country, psychedelic, classic rock bands. I was diving into my parents’ world, my mind being blown, unfamiliar with the timeline of music influencers. Not as well known, The Band was the most influential in the development of the Dead’s sound.
