Everything Is Alive, Darlingside’s fourth LP, marks a subtle but remarkable departure for the Boston-based quartet NPR once described as “exquisitely arranged, literary minded, baroque folk-pop.” While the album retains much of the lushness and sophistication of Extralife (2018) and Fish Pond Fish (2020), the band’s latest work decisively exposes and differentiates the individual voices of the four songwriters—a daring reinvention for a group known for ubiquitous vocal harmonies.

Today, veteran singer-songwriter Citizen Cope, a.k.a Clarence Greenwood, announced his upcoming LP entitled The Victory March due out this summer via his label Rainwater Recordings. Alongside this announcement, he has shared a new single, the languid and airy “Close To You.” The song is classic Cope, with the singer showcasing his rootsy soul-inflected vocals over echoing acoustics and soaring horns. The song builds with high arching harmonies as Cope sings of the sacrifices he has made to form a strong relationship.

The Wreckless Strangers have been busy on the road this spring playing to new fans in the Pacific Northwest and Southern California. The band is excited to return home to the Bay Area, hit some Sierra mountain towns, and expand their tour further across the country to the East Coast over the next few months. The War and Treaty shined bright at the 2023 ACM Awards last night, marking the first time a black duo has performed on the ACM Awards.
