It’s been a busy year for singer-songwriters Mason Summit & Irene Greene. Fresh off the release of their critically-acclaimed debut single “Rosemary” earlier this  year, the two have relocated from Los Angeles to Nashville and are set to release their follow-up, “The Long Parade.” Inspired by the Southern Gothic works of  Tennessee Williams, the song transports the listener to a smoky honky tonk awash with swinging drums, lively tack piano and twangy lap steel guitar as Summit and Greene sing of lost love and betrayal.

Written at the height of the pandemic, “The Long Parade” encapsulates The Prickly Pair’s evocative musical & lyrical approach, recalling the dawn of the  roots-rock and outlaw country movements spearheaded by Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings & Jessi Colter.

Says Greene, “While isolating together, we watched a lot of old movies and  drew on films like the adaptation of A Streetcar Named Desire for imagery at a  time when our connection to the real world was limited.” Summit identifies The  Byrds’s Sweetheart of the Rodeo as a sonic blueprint for bringing the song to life in  a full-band context.

Longtime collaborator Jim Doyle engineered and performed drums & percussion,  John McDuffie engineered and performed lap steel guitar, Summit’s Jaw Talk bandmate Oliver Roman engineered the vocals and mixed the recording, & Mason  Summit engineered and performed bass, rhythm guitar, and keyboards. “The Long  Parade” was mastered by Bobbi Giel at Welcome to 1979.
