In celebration of tomorrow’s Summer Solstice, Consequence of Sound has unveiled “Violet Light”, the new music video from rock n’ roll missionaries The Artisanals. “Violet Light” will be officially released across all digital and streaming platforms tomorrow, Friday, June 21, and timed auspiciously to be available on a day marked with magic and illumination. When questioned by Consequence of Sound about the inspiration behind “Violet Light,” frontman Johnny Delaware responded with “Faith.” He explains, [w]hen I first started The Artisanals with Clay (Houle), I remember talking to a tree on a hero’s dose of mushrooms... It showed me a vision of a plant coming out of the ground during a hailstorm. It was getting whipped around by the wind and it struggled to hold on to its roots. The message was wise and simple: the beginning is never easy, but over time you get stronger and continue to grow and expand yourself. Know that whatever you are going through, it is going to be okay... hold a space for faith. You were made from the stars and you are more than you are conditioned to think.”
In follow-up to their breakout 2018 self-titled full length album, The Artisanals are breathing new life into a hybrid genre of Heartland Rock meets Alt-Country with the release of “Violet Light.” Praised by Rolling Stone as having been “built to preach the gospel of rock n’ roll,” The Artisanals hold iconic predecessors Tom Petty, George Harrison, and Jackson Browne close to their chest, while offering a refreshing sound through their new single. Produced by Drew Vandenberg (Toro y Moi, of Montreal, Kishi Bashi), “Violet Light” invokes conflicting emotions of hope and longing and begs to be played through a car stereo while the sun rises in a rearview mirror. With an infectious hook and feel-good melody, “Violet Light” is the perfect summer playlist addition.
