Boston’s Independent Radio, WXRV/92.5 the River announced that long-time station favorites Barenaked Ladies will headline their 17th Annual Newburyport Riverfront Music Festival on Saturday, September 1st at Waterfront Park. Phillip Phillips, Anderson East and The Aldous Collins Band round out the bill for the free festival which runs from 12PM to 6:30PM. The announcement was made as part of “The Big Reveal,” a special hour long show with morning host Dana Marshall.
Canadian rockers Barenaked Ladies were recently awarded Canada’s highest musical honor with their induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the 2018 Juno Awards. The event celebrated the band’s impressive achievements over their 30-year career including Juno Award wins, Grammy nominations, 15 million albums sold worldwide and a long string of hit songs like “If I had $1,000,000,” “One Week,” “Brian Wilson,” “The Old Apartment,” and more. The band’s 15th studio album, “Fake Nudes,” was released last fall.
“We’re thrilled to have Barenaked Ladies celebrate their 30th year together with us in Newburyport. The group has been beloved by River listeners since we signed on-air,” said Marshall. “With Barenaked Ladies, Phillip Phillips, Anderson East and The Aldous Collins Band, we are going to have a festival filled with really talented musicians performing incredibly great songs.”
Phillip Phillips, winner of the 11th season of “American Idol” and the owner of the biggest selling single in “Idol” history, “Home,” is currently touring in support of his third album, “Collateral,” which was released in January. The Georgia native has often drawn comparisons to Dave Matthews.
Eclectic southern soul and roots rocker Anderson East is a River rising star; his song “All On My Mind” rose to the top of the Adult Rock radio chart. Known for his songwriting collaborations with people like Chris Stapleton, Natalie Hemby, Ed Sheeran and Johnny McDaid, his most recent single, “Girlfriend,” was co-written with producer David Cobb, Aaron Raitiere and Avicii.
Hailing from the South Shore, The Aldous Collins Band will open the festival. Known for their explosive live show filled with fun and high energy filled music, the strength of the band lies in its uncanny ability to connect with the audience through infectious songs and the dynamic front man Aldous Collins.
