Big Gigantic, the "high-altitude club bangers" (LA Times) who specialize in a shape-shifting blend of electronic and hip-hop, will release 'Nocturnal' on January 11, a major artistic statement by an act already exploding on the live scene.Comprised of musical mad scientists Dominic Lalli (saxophonist/producer) and Jeremy Salken (drums), the Boulder, CO-based Big Gigantic formed in late 2008 with the idea of interpreting traditional DJ-based music through live instruments, and has since grown into a full-fledged monster of creativity and improvisation. In particular, Lalli's saxophone - an integral slice of the band's incomparable style - is in the forefront more than ever on 'Nocturnal,' floating through elements of hip-hop, funk, and electronic dance music."The Uprising" kicks things off with twisting, teasing synth lines that explode into an appropriately titled, festival-ready rager punctuated by Lalli's wailing sax. Like an entrance song from another galaxy, "The Heavyweight Champion" integrates jazz and anthemic hip-hop into the band's already provocative musical cocktail. On songs like "Hopscotch" and the title track, vocals are sampled, mutated, and looped into the mix in a fashion that will cause even Kanye to take notice. As Richmond Times-Dispatch put it: "The future never sounded so danceable."Listen to 'Nocturnal' on LA Times "Pop & Hiss" Blog hereBig Gigantic, a must-see live act already a draw at major festivals, will take their new material and a brand-new stage production nationwide throughout early 2012. The 'Nocturnal Tour' will include four shows in their home state of Colorado and stops in Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Nashville, Washington D.C, and more. Along with recent tourmates Bassnectar and Pretty Lights, Big Gigantic have leapfrogged to the forefront of an electronic music scene that is taking the mainstream by storm, as noted in both a SPIN cover and Billboard profile on the movement's 2011 success.Big Gigantic Tour Dates:Dec 29 - SnowGlobe Music Festival - Lake Tahoe, NVDec 30 - Lights All Night - Dallas, TXDec 31 - Riviera Theatre @ - Chicago, ILJan 18 - Belly Up Aspen # - Aspen, COJan 19 - Aggie Theatre # - Ft.
