Paving your own way in the music industry is no easy task, but some artists are made for such endeavors, including the Bay Area's Americana mavens The Brothers Comatose. Following three critically acclaimed full-length studio albums (Songs From The Stoop, Respect The Van, City Painted Gold), The Brothers Comatose disrupts the traditional album cycle and focuses their 2017/2018 release schedule on a series of strategically released songs. Following their initial songs "Don't Make Me Get Up And Go" and "Cedarwood Pines" in their new series, the five-piece string band releases "Get Me Home" with an accompanying music video shot on location at their festival Comatopia (Bandit Town USA) located near the South Entrance to Yosemite National Park in North Fork, Calif..
Produced by indie-rock legend John Vanderslice, "Get Me Home" is released on November 3 to coincide with the "Campfire Caravan" national tour featuring The Brothers Comatose, Mipso and The Lil Smokies. "Get Me Home" follows the release of "Cedarwood Pines" (Oct. 8) and its music video capturing the band's inimitable horseback three-show tour throughout California's gold country in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. The debut song in the series, "Don't Make Me Get Up And Go" (Sept. 8), was released in advance of Americanafest 2017.
The Brothers Comatose are anything but a traditional acoustic outfit with their fierce musicianship and rowdy live shows reminiscent of stadium rock concerts. The band churns out raucous West Coast renderings of traditional bluegrass, rock 'n' roll, and alt-country, and with "Get Me Home" the band lays it on the line for all the touring artists out there fighting the good fight to stay true and grounded.
Written by vocalist and upright bass player Gio Benedetti, he comments, "'Get Me Home' reflects the struggle for commitment and fidelity in a relationship that has to survive the rigors of artists hitting the road while their partners are at home. Life as a nationally touring act has its extreme highs and lows. As the days go on with show after show, relationships must bear increasing distance, temptations, and loneliness. Despite crazy schedules and differing experiences between two lovers, 'Get Me Home' keeps the gravity of being faithful and remembering the promises made at the center of one's life while touring the world."
With John Vanderslice at the production helm, The Brothers Comatose ventured to new sonic territories in the studio. Benedetti adds, "Vanderslice listened for the energy and attitude of the tune, and we decided to go with our first take of 'Get Me Home.' He really captured the desperation and drive, and even had the idea of throwing down some delicious Hammond B3 chords on the bridge. We never would of thought of adding that B3, it's a beautiful moment and really highlights the significance of that part of 'Get Me Home.'"
The Brothers Comatose is comprised of brothers Ben Morrison (guitar, vocals) and Alex Morrison (banjo, vocals), Gio Benedetti (bass, vocals), Philip Brezina (violin), and Ryan Avellone (mandolin). When they're not headlining The Fillmore for a sold-out show or appearing at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, the band is out on the road performing across America, Canada, Australia, and hosting their very own music festival, Comatopia. In 2018, The Brothers Comatose will travel to Asia for a month of cultural music exchange and education with American Music Abroad, a program directed by the State Department.
This fall, "Campfire Caravan" featuring The Brothers Comatose, Mipso, and The Lil Smokies hosts three of today's foremost emerging indie Americana bands as they trek across the United States. With each band quickly rising the ranks, "Campfire Caravan" honors the musicians' early days playing music, when they'd perform for friends and family in basements, living rooms, and around campfires. "Campfire Caravan" celebrates the American tradition of gathering communities around music.
