The 8th annual California Roots Music and Arts Festival will take place at the historic Monterey County Fair and Event Center from May 26-28, 2017. The top tier national festival is the premier gathering for the progressive U.S. Reggae and roots music movement, bringing the scene together over Memorial Day weekend in beautiful Monterey, CA.
The 2016 edition of California Roots was the most successful year to date with a record capacity of attendees, celebrity sightings, and the most expansive green initiatives yet. There is no wonder that the Huffington Post chose it as one of the “Top 10 Under-The-Radar Music Festivals in North America,” while The Monterey County Weekly noted that the festival is “…growing so big that its arms are stretching out towards Coachella and Bonnaroo territory.”
2017 is shaping up to continue where last year left off, but embodying the spirit of the historic Monterey Pop Festival, which will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2017, and took place at the same location as California Roots. The Monterey Herald recently found parallels between both festivals stating, “One might point to Monterey Pop as the first such groovy-vibes kind of festival, although from my experience, Cali Roots is the epitome of that feeling.”
2017’s California Roots Music and Arts Festival announces today another impressive line-up with its first round of artists. Limited Early Bird 3-day tickets will go on sale on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 10am PST (Purchase Link: http://californiarootsfestival.com/tickets). This year also introduced, The California Roots “Redwood Pass” in partnership with the Redwood Forest Foundation (www.rffi.org). Two redwoods will be planted for each of these, very limited Redwood Passes, resulting in a total of 800 new redwood trees. The launch was so successful, that the passes sold out in five minutes.

Artists like Jesse Royal and Mellow Mood from Italy are bringing a high energy fresh sound to our scene alongside Tribal Theory and Humble Soul representing stateside. The legendary hip hop group Jurassic 5 will also be making their first appearance and we couldn’t be more thrilled for them to bring their uplifting vibe to our festival,” says festival Co-Producer Dan Sheehan.
