Today, Calling All Crows, a nonprofit organization that connects and mobilizes music fans to join feminist movements for justice and equality, announces the official launch of Voice Your Choice, a campaign designed to activate music fans to learn about reproductive freedom and take action.
This month, the organization will be present at Kilby Court Block Party in Salt Lake City, UT this month to provide resources and encourage voter registration with BallotReady. BallotReady will put everything on the ballot in one place, from county commissioners to ballot measures to judges, including email, text and calendar reminders to vote.
Plus, on June 5, the organization will host AMPlying Democracy: a Voice Your Choice kick off event at the Crystal Ballroom in Somerville, MA including live performances by Chadwick Stokes of Dispatch and CMT Next Women of Country artist Julie Williams. Tickets are on sale now here. Stokes has signed on to join the campaign with his rock opera performances of 1972 as well as his fall 2024 Amplifying Democracy Tour in partnership with the organization. Calling All Crows invites all artists to join the campaign and get involved in making shows safer and fans engaged in reproductive freedom.
Executive Director Heatherjean Macneil is looking forward to engaging fans and artists in this mission and shares, "In our efforts to engage music fans in civic engagement this year, we have been listening and connecting with our community and feminist, political thought leaders. Therefore, we are honing our efforts to Amplify Democracy with the Voice Your Choice campaign, focused on educating fans and Generation Z on the state of reproductive freedom and why it’s paramount that they, that we all, Voice our Choice."
Calling All Crows will be bringing their permanent program, Here For The Music, which fights against sexual violence and aims to build safety at shows and festivals across the country, as well as the new campaign, Voice Your Choice, to music fans across the U.S. this summer. Fans can engage in fun activities at the Calling All Crows booth, including adding their thoughts to our Here For The Music wall, winning prizes, making a voting plan, and connecting with fellow music fans who are passionate about social justice. The Here For The Music program has been supported by boygenius, Clairo, Goose, The 1975, Courtney Barnett and more.
The Calling All Crows booth serves as a safe space where festival goers can take a breath, learn about our current programming, and take action with us to learn about how they can keep each other safe at shows and festivals, as well as learn about important ballot measures in their area, especially in regards to reproductive freedom. At Bonnaroo, fans will be able to add their hopes and dreams for reproductive freedom and democracy in the U.S. to the Calling All Crows wishing wall. Calling All Crows is officially partnering with NICE Festival, shares Here For The Music Director Maggie Arthur. "We're excited to partner with NICE, A Fest this year as they expand into new territory adding an outdoor stage in Davis Square. Not only is Here for the Music providing behind the scenes support to make the festival safer for everyone, but we're also their official nonprofit beneficiary this year which means that everyone who attends the festival is in no small way supporting our mission to connect music fans with social justice causes."
Calling All Crows is thrilled to be present at Kilby Court Block Party this month, in addition to plenty of other festivals, to spread Calling All Crows' message in person. Annie Bailey, Calling All Crows' Engagement and Operations Manager shares, "Engaging with fans in the festival context is so special for us because we are able to provide real ways fans can take action for important social justice causes that we're championing. Feeding off the positive, fun energy that live music fosters makes being in those spaces so impactful for us as an organization, because we understand that music brings us all together and can be a driving force for social change."
On the importance of being present at festivals across the country, Arthur says, "Tabling festivals allows us to bring resources to brand new audiences, and especially to people who may not otherwise get exposed to messaging that is pro-consent, pro-abortion and pro-voting while still being lighthearted, open-minded and fun."
In March, Calling All Crows launched three initiatives in honor of Women's History Month, including a livestream with Resilient Sisterhood Project (RSP), their 16th Annual Benefit Weekend with a sold out performance by Chadwick Stokes of Dispatch and The Pintos in Somerville, and an in-person event at The Sinclair in Boston, MA in celebration of their announcement of a new service project with Reproductive Equity Now.
