The Disco Biscuits presented City Bisco last weekend in Philadelphia, PA at the iconic Mann Center for Performing Arts. They gathered a number of their talented friends to join the jamtronica effort including The New Deal, Bob Moses, Township Rebellion, and LP Giobbi on a picture perfect June afternoon. These bands brought heat and excitement, with anything from special guests to inverted songs to the Disco Biscuits joining LP Giobbi on stage during her set and jamming into theirs.
The festivities kicked off with Township Rebellion, who shared some high energy dance music early in the afternoon. These two DJs delivered smooth house beats and a surprisingly cool light show. Additionally, early attendees were treated to stunning day light, which provided opportunities to admire the impressive architecture at the Mann Center.
Just as the crowd started to warm up, The New Deal took the stage. The Toronto, Ca based squad brought Philadelphia's own drummer Mike Greenfield from Lotus to hold down the beats. The band had not played in the USA since prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, and were beyond ecstatic to bring their organic deep house sound to this event.
The Canadian delights rolled on with the electro indie pop duo, Bob Moses. This Grammy winning pair, Jim Vallance (synth/production) and Tom Howie (vocals), from Vancouver, Canada eloquently wove electronica with vocals. They were backed up by a drummer and bassist to drive home the organic vibes.
The crowd was primed and ready for the force of nature that is the Disco Biscuits. They typically deliver non-stop fan favorite filled setlists for these occasions, and this evening was no exception. "We Like To Party" started the set, and flowed into the end of "Spacebirdmatingcall," which went unfinished from the night prior. The music and energy was high as the band segued into new song "Freeze," followed by "Anthem," and wrapped up with the ending of classic tune "Above the Waves."
While the Disco Biscuits took a much needed break, and Producer/DJ LP Giobbi dished out some tasty dance music to keep the party going. Melding unique piano loops with high energy beats is her specialty. Many have taken notice, including the Disco Biscuits, who decided to join her on stage to start their second set. The artists were collectively all smiles. Eventually, LP Giobbi's set wound down, and she left the stage to roaring applause.
Set two continued with new tunes "Lake Shore Drive" > "A Change To Save The World." The Biscuits dropped some of their signature inversion in the next vintage tune, "Confrontation." The beat didn't stop as the band continued this raucous jam into another new tune, "Space Train."
As the Disco Biscuits moved into beast mode, good friend and Philadelphia musician Tom Hamilton joined them on stage to elevate the dance party. This delicious non-stop set closed out with old school fan favorite, "Morph Dusseldorf," from the band's Uncivilized Area release. Hamilton stuck around for the encore, and joined the efforts to deliver a raging version of Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell."
The Disco Biscuits are innately skilled at putting together a stellar line up of EDM and Jam artists, as well as delivering their own mind blowing performance.
