One of Ireland's best loved and hardest working bands, The Coronas are set to return to North America for their biggest series of shows ever. Having completed two tours that included 11 sold out shows in support of their fifth and latest album, TRUST THE WIRE, the upcoming series of shows will include larger venues along with several high profile music festivals.
Already announced are the band's debut appearances at the eclectic Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago's Grant Park on Sunday, August 5 as well as three nights at the annual Milwaukee Irish Fest, August 17, 18 and 19. The major portion of tour begins in Calgary, Alberta on September 25 and continues for more than a month of shows in cities all over the United States and Canada.
The Coronas, who have five critically-acclaimed albums to their credit-four of them double platinum in Ireland and one on its way there-have spent a decade touring all over the world. The TRUST THE WIRE album debuted at #1 on the Irish music chart in its first week of release in the summer of 2017, becoming the band's first album to reach the top spot. After achieving that milestone, The Coronas--Danny O'Reilly (vocals, guitar), Graham Knox (bass), Conor Egan (drums) and Dave McPhillips (guitar)-hit the road to take their music directly to audiences everywhere, performing shows in Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, the United States and even Dubai, bookended by massive concerts in their native Ireland.
Shows in the UK and an array of summer festivals around Ireland as well as headlining Ireland's largest indoor concert venue-the 3Arena-on July 21 will precede this new North American tour. Lead singer Danny O'Reilly is geared up for all it. "Obviously, the huge shows we do at home in Ireland have 'an arena adrenaline factor,' but any time we've gone to America, we've always gotten a great reaction," he explains. "Of course, every city has its own vibe and atmosphere, but, as a whole, the American audiences are amazing. They're not quite as crazy loud as the Irish, and they aren't too subdued like some of the European crowds."
To coincide with their touring schedule, The Coronas will be rolling out new music throughout the summer that they recorded in Ireland at the beginning of the year. The first such release is the song "Is There Still Time?," available now on Spotify and iTunes.
Additionally, the Coronas have also unveiled a new video for the song "Gut Feeling" from TRUST THE WIRE that has the band performing live at the National Film School in Dublin. It was created by a number of film students there as a class project. It can be viewed here:
In addition to TRUST THE WIRE, The Coronas previously released four studio albums: HEROES OR GHOSTS (2007), TONY WAS AN EX-CON (2009), CLOSER TO YOU (2011) and THE LONG WAY (2014), the first three via the independent Irish label 3ú Records and the fourth one on Island Records. Returning to the independent route, they released TRUST THE WIRE on their own label imprint, So Far So Good Records.
With the singles "Real Feel" and "We Couldn't Fake It" from TRUST THE WIRE making inroads at U.S. radio for the first time, The Coronas' music is becoming more recognizable in America, and their audiences are growing. "I think because America and Ireland have such a connection historically, we tend to get welcomed wherever we go," says Danny. "It'll be our third trip to North America in the last year, and we're looking forward to heading back and seeing cities that we've started to get a feel for. We've already found some cool coffee shops, bars and places that we'd love to see again."
