Celebrating the grandeurs of life with an intoxicating collection of new cross-cultural anthems, Delhi 2 Dublin crafts blissful Subcontinental Pop with traces of India and Ireland on their latest studio album, We Got This (Warner Canada; Release Date: May 17, 2019). Delhi 2 Dublin breaks down walls and builds bridges for all people to unite with reassurance that better days are ahead. When the world is hyper-divided with factions perpetuating hatred and fear, empowering music is the vehicle for social change. On We Got This, Delhi 2 Dublin lets the world know there's nothing anyone can do to bring us down.
Produced by Toronto hitmaker Gavin Brown (Barenaked Ladies, Metric, Tragically Hip), We Got This opens with three rapturous singles mixed by powerhouse Robert Orton (Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey). "My People" sets the uplifting pace of We Got This with a heavy dhol drum pulsating beneath Sanjay Seran's velvety vocals consoling us all that we're in this life together as a community. Seran sings, "we are in the streets, we are in the air, my people are everywhere, listen to the drum beat, hands in the air, my people are everywhere."
The undeniable interconnected universal language that runs through Delhi 2 Dublin's music takes flight with the title track, "We Got This." Orchestral string samples brace Delhi 2 Dublin's prevailing message to never give up. "Home" tackles the global refugee crisis with open arms and affirmation that, "everywhere I go, I am home." If everyone can just for a moment stand in the shoes of an immigrant or refugee, they could experience their compassion and urgent need for solace. As children of immigrants themselves, Delhi 2 Dublin offers hope to those who are suffering. "Home" honors the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which is beautifully commemorated in the song's official music video released on December 10, 2018.
"The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that, 'We as part of the brotherhood of humans have the right to leave any country, including our own, and to return to our country,'" says Sanjay Seran. "As a result, I, the son of an immigrant, can call the diverse city of Vancouver my home, thus ringing true that everywhere I go, I CAN be HOME. Not only is it a privilege, it is my right."
Painting an optimistic picture during dark times on We Got This, "Sunrise" offers levity with an earworm of a chorus dripping with synths and EDM beats. "L.O.V.E." embodies the best of reasons to sing out loud the letters symbolizing elated affection with its infectious backdrop of tablas, acoustic guitars, and dhol driven rhythm. "Happen" exhibits much needed encouragement that we can all use to help get through rough days with a supportive guiding light. "Wobble" takes its lyrical phrasing cues from fellow Canadian rapper Drake while inferring to those in close proximity not to push the limits and "don't step on my toes."
"Loud" delivers the straight up party vibe to We Got This, an aesthetic Delhi 2 Dublin is renowned for as they perform nearly 100 live concerts per year. We Got This closes with "Weed, Samosas, and Sriracha," bringing We Got This out with Seran repeating the mantra, "I look around, it's a good life!"
Delhi 2 Dublin's unabashed genre-hopping sonically transports the collective to the far stretches of the globe. Seran's collaboration with bandmates Tarun Nayar (tabla), Ravi Binning (drums) and Serena Eades (violin) allows ultimate freedom to traverse the electronic music landscape with traditional instrumentation of Indian classical music and Irish fiddle broadening the sound of Delhi 2 Dublin. We Got This propels Delhi 2 Dublin's socially-charged messages to the masses via Warner Canada on May 17, 2019.
