Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen keeps on pickin’ up momentum. The acclaimed group was honored with numerous nominations during International Bluegrass Music Association’s nomination announcement. The past winners of IBMA Instrumental Group of the Year (2014), the band garnered a repeat nomination in that category. In a related category, they are also nominated for IBMA Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year for their tune, “Cazenovia Casanova,” featuring Sam Bush and Jerry Douglas.
In addition, Solivan’s recording of “Pretty Woman,” featuring Del McCoury, is nominated for IBMA Recorded Event of the Year. Quite an event indeed, Solivan included the Orbison hit as part of his recent solo album, Family, Friends & Heroes (March 2016, Compass Records). The album honors Solivan’s musical heroes and features Dirty Kitchen members, Solivan’s relatives, and special guests Rob Ickes, Del and Ronnie McCoury, and more.
As in years past, Dirty Kitchen members also received individual IBMA nominations. Frank Solivan is up for IBMA Mandolin Player of the Year and Mike Munford for IBMA Banjo Player of the Year. Past nods for members include Solivan’s 2014 nominations for Male Vocalist of the Year and Mandolin Player of the Year, Mike Munford’s 2013 win as IBMA Banjo Player of the Year, and Chris Luquette’s 2013 IBMA Momentum Award for Instrumentalist of the Year.
