Following his triumphant releases, ‘Down’ and ‘Left Foot Right Foot (Panic),’ Podge Lane continues to peel back the curtain on what's to come with Multiple Dead Ends.
Ecstatic drums slap against the twanging banjo as the alt-country troubadour, Podge Lane, breaks out his latest single, ‘This Is Not What I Was Promised,’ set for release on July 26th via Lane’s independent record label, Teip Records.
Marking another glimpse into Lane's upcoming third studio album, Multiple Dead Ends, ‘TINWIWP’ reaches a boiling point. Enveloped in a panicked pace, Lane combines the rock eccentricities akin to Jack White and The Rolling Stones with the country sensitivities of Sturgill Simpson or Zach Bryan.
With every screaming lap steel strum and beaten banjo chord, Lane implodes,
“This is not what I was promised, when my whole life all got started.”
“It’s that compare and contrast attitude we all tend to get during tough times,“ Lane states. “That feeling of, 'Oh, no one prepared me for this,' or 'Oh, I’m not as good as this person.' We all tend to go down those rabbit holes for longer than we care to admit. I thought it might be nice to have a song to pick ourselves up out of that funk.”
With Lane’s earlier singles off MDE, ‘Down’ and ‘Left Foot Right Foot (Panic),’ being noted by various publications for channeling, ‘the blues gods with … swampy electric slide guitar, setting the stage for Lane’s melancholic existential lyrics,’ it’s clear the lingering feelings of dread have burst into flames on Lane’s new track, which entices us all the more to feed into the frenzy.
Returning from the UK, supporting Rachael Sage in Camden’s Green Note and The Riptide Movement in the Sea Church, Ballycotton, Podge Lane sets his sights towards headlining the Multiple Dead Ends launch in Whelan’s on August 28th, with more dates to be announced on the Sad But Tourable adventure.
