Today, The Greyboy Allstars unveil "Boxes," the third and final single from their highly anticipated album Grab Bag: 2007-2023, set for release on November 22. This nine-track collection, curated from the band’s archives, spans 16 years of rare and unreleased material, including an instrumental soul-jazz take on Michael Jackson’s "The Way You Make Me Feel." With Grab Bag, The Greyboy Allstars continue their legacy as pioneers of West Coast boogaloo, blending jazz, funk, and soul in their unique style.
Founding member and keyboardist Robert Walter shares insight on the new single: “Boxes is my attempt at writing a Wayne Shorter-style tune. It has a long form with chord changes, allowing us to collectively improvise with the shape of the song as a road map. It’s a modern take on jazz techniques from the 1960s.” The track offers listeners a glimpse into the band’s creative process, highlighting their skillful balance between structure and improvisation.
For those interested in exploring the full album before its release, promo downloads and streams are available upon request. The band is also offering interviews to provide more behind-the-scenes stories and insights on the making of Grab Bag: 2007-2023.
