In honor of their second annual On The Ocean weekend, renowned rock band Guster is partnering with Mast Landing Brewing Company to produce ‘On The Ocean’ Pale Ale. The beer will officially be launched at Guster’s concert at the State Theatre on Friday, August 3rd, and will be available at select bars and restaurants throughout the Portland area.
Mast Landing Brewing Company opened in early 2016 and quickly became one of Maine’s top breweries. With a mainly hop-forward lineup of beers, Mast Landing also brews one of the most sought-after milk stouts in New England. In only 2 and half years, the brewery has gone through two large production expansions and was the fastest growing Maine Brewery in 2017.
“I fell in love with Mast Landing's ‘Green To Green’ IPA and happened to meet the owners at a concert,” said Guster’s Adam Gardner, who will be at the Westbrook, Maine brewery on July 17th to help make the first batch of On The Ocean Pale Ale. “It turns out they're Guster fans - though I think I was even more excited to meet them than they were me! The conversation very quickly shifted into how we could collaborate on a special ‘On The Ocean’ beer. After tasting everything they’ve been making, we came up with a very flavorful and tropical, easy drinking pale ale. We think it will pair great with a summer weekend on the ocean in Maine!”
On Saturday, August 4th, Mast Landing will host a special release party at the brewery for fans who participate in that morning’s Reverb service project. Reverb, the environmental organization founded by Gardner and his wife, Lauren Sullivan, engages with concertgoers to take action for the environment. 10% of the proceeds from each can of ‘On The Ocean’ Pale Ale will benefit Reverb.
“As Guster fans since high school, we’re beyond excited to be able to collaborate with the band to brew such an awesome beer and be part of such an amazing weekend in Portland,’ said Ian Dorsey, president and founder of Mast Landing Brewing Company. “It’s been great to work with Adam and the rest of Guster through every part of the brewing process, and we all think both Guster fans and beer fans alike will really enjoy it!”
On The Ocean weekend also includes Guster’s return to Thompson’s Point with Kishi Bashi, The Secret Sisters and Rest Assured, the winners of the Maine Academy of Modern Music’s 2018 MAMM SLAM: Maine's High School Rock Off. The weekend wraps up on Sunday with Guster Day at Hadlock Field, the home of minor league baseball’s Portland Sea Dogs.
