Grateful Web is pleased to premiere the new music video by Ted Drozdowski’s Coyote Motel, an expansion of the Nashville-based mastermind and daring guitarist’s sound into cosmic roots music.
Drozdowski says, “Making this album, I really wanted everything close to the bone … truthful. And I wanted to forge my own sound, inspired by all the sounds and styles I love. "Still Among the Living" is the best example of that on Coyote Motel. I grew up with an extremely violent father and spent a lot of my childhood in fear. That stays with you the rest of your life. And I think the dancers, who I got to know performing with them at a festival in Nashville last summer, and the lighting reflect the complex emotions that come from growing up with abuse, with tenderness and beauty. I tried to do the same with my guitar solo, because music can say a lot more than words.”
Drozdowski made the video with the Suspended Gravity Circus and all psychedelic visual effects were produced live while filming. The dancers and effects will also appear at the official album release show February 16 at the 5 Spot in Nashville, which will also feature vocalist Luella aka Luella Melissa Mathes (Luella & The Sun, Crackerboots).
The album ‘Coyote Motel,’ out January 25, features liner notes by Lou Reed biographer Anthony DeCurtis. It follows his decade-long stint in the psychedelic blues band Scissormen, much of which was inspired by a friendship with north Mississippi hill country bluesman R.L. Burnside.
Drozdowski is also an author (of the collection Obsessions of a Music Geek: Volume 1) and an editor for Premier Guitar Magazine.
