Julian Lage has released “Omission” — a reverent new single imbued with a pastoral swing — and announced his upcoming Speak to Me Tour which will take the guitar virtuoso across the United States and Europe in Spring 2024. “Omission” finds the acclaimed producer Joe Henry enhancing Lage’s trademark melodic lyricism and features Julian on acoustic and electric guitars, Jorge Roeder on bass, Dave King on drums, and Patrick Warren on piano. Written by Lage, the track will be featured on his forthcoming Blue Note album to be released in early 2024.
“‘Omission’ is a song I wrote earlier this year as a kind of miniature, short theme with a bridge,” says Lage. “I had assumed it needed a lot more sections before bringing it to the band. I loved the theme and couldn’t find a way to add more material without losing the central theme, so I walked away from it for a little while. Then I shared it with my dear friend Joe Henry and we tried a version with a larger ensemble, with acoustic guitar leading the charge and it felt like it had found its home.”

Lage’s most recent release The Layers has been nominated for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album at the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards. A companion piece to his 2022 album View With A Room, the collection featured six original pieces recorded during the same sessions with Roeder, King, and fellow guitar master Bill Frisell. The Layers was produced by Margaret Glaspy and recorded by Mark Goodell with additional production by Armand Hirsch.
Lage’s Speak to Me Tour kicks off in March 2024 with a run of U.S. shows that includes a concert at Town Hall in New York City and a performance at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee followed by a run of European dates that brings the guitarist to Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, London, and more.
