On March 6, The Back Room in Berkeley will host a special evening of heartfelt Americana music as two family bands, Marco & the Polos and Purple Glaze, take the stage. This intimate venue, known for its warm acoustics and listening-room atmosphere, is the perfect setting for a night of rich harmonies, dynamic energy, and a deep musical connection rooted in shared experience.

Marco & the Polos, a sibling quartet featuring Judith (keys, hand percussion), Tricia (guitar, banjo), Frances (vocals), and Mick (Marco) Hellman (drums), bring a unique blend of blues, rock, and Americana-tinged originals. Accompanied by a rotating cast of some of the Bay Area’s finest session players, the band is a fixture in the local acoustic scene and a mainstay at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. Their name is a nod to the classic childhood call-and-response game they played growing up, and their music captures that same sense of spontaneity and joy.

Sharing the bill is Purple Glaze, an acoustic Americana band and arts collective deeply inspired by their love of artisan pottery. Led by the signature mother-daughter harmonies of Kate and Tricia Gibbs, the band delivers both original compositions and reimagined arrangements of folk and bluegrass classics, supported by some of the Bay Area’s top acoustic musicians.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with Marco & the Polos taking the stage at 7 p.m., followed by Purple Glaze at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission, with free entry for children under 12. Advance tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite, while limited at-the-door tickets (if not sold out) will be available via cash or Venmo.

Don’t miss this unique family-driven musical experience, blending generations of talent and tradition in an intimate and welcoming setting. Follow Marco and the Polos and Purple Glaze for updates and more music.
