This evening, Houston, Texas' Khruangbin, the band that’s known for serving up a rich, genre-blurring combination of Thai funk, bass-stepped Tarantino soundtracks and surf-rock cool will make their national TV debut on Austin City Limits, performing songs off their 2020 album 'Mordechai (Dead Oceans, in association with Late Night Stories).
The atmospheric and eccentric group, which has been on countless global tours and graced nearly every major festival stage in the world, is a live force to be reckoned with.
Bassist Laura Lee flaunts funky baselines, drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson pensively holds the steady groove, while guitarist Mark Speer rocks downtempo, wailing guitar melodies. Fans savor the night and “howl along to the strings, trying to keep up with [Khruangbin’s] electric range” (The Guardian).
If you haven’t seen Khruangbin live, you haven’t really heard them yet. Watch their psychedelic performance @ The Villain for Pitchfork to get a feel for their exceptionally visual and otherworldly live shows
Be sure to tune into the live ACL taping this evening at 6 PM PT / 8 PM CT / 9 PM ET here
