Singer-songwriter, yogi, and international retreat guide Mary Bue has released “Trying To Fight The Wind,” a song about invisible pressure inspired by the brutal winters of Minnesota. The track is now available on all streaming platforms.
“Wind fascinates me—a power we can’t see. An invisible force that can blow down trees and buildings, causing massive damage, all created by pressure,” Bue reflects. “This song speaks to systemic pressure and the ‘heard it on the wind’ quality of gossip, misapprehension, and lies that can run our societal show, especially in these ‘unprecedented times.’ It also speaks to the idiom of ‘spitting in the wind’—the feeling of trying so hard to create or prove something, to speak truth to power, yet going nowhere as the spit flies right back in your face.”
Earlier this week, the song debuted on Glide Magazine, who noted:
“[Mary] honors the comfy vibes of Aimee Mann with her glossy alt-rock touch that shimmers with a vibrant sense of hope and redemption.”
“Trying To Fight The Wind” is the third track from the forthcoming album, The Wildness of Living and Dying, out February 7, 2025. A collection of songs that contemplates trauma, uncertainty, compassion, and healing, The Wildness of Living and Dying was composed in the years surrounding a traumatic carjacking experience in late 2020. The album explores strength in vulnerability, the resilience of the human spirit, and the growth that can emerge within a cycle of destruction, ultimately leading to transformation.
Later this month, Mary Bue joins Cloud Cult for several dates in the South and Southeast. She celebrates the album’s release with a hometown show at The Parkway Theater in Minneapolis on Saturday, February 16, followed by a performance in Duluth in March (further details TBA).
“With a dreamy darkness and choir-like harmonies framing Mary’s rich vocal storytelling, ‘Bedding Down With the Deer’ confronts trauma with a haunting sequence that leads to strength and empowerment.”

About Mary Bue
Named “Best Songwriter 2020” by her hometown weekly Minneapolis City Pages, Mary Bue is set to release her ninth album, The Wildness of Living and Dying, following 2020’s The World Is Your Lover. Produced by Steve Price of The Suburbs, the new album synthesizes her style of the past 20+ years—merging piano and guitar, spiritual longing, and real-world sorrow. Bue’s earlier records highlight life in melancholy piano-poems, but in 2015, she shifted to a more aggressive electric-guitar style, blending concise lyricism and a nod to ’90s grunge.
An accomplished recording artist and touring musician, Bue’s studio albums capture her electrifying stage presence. Her last four albums were fully fan-funded via Kickstarter. She has been awarded multiple Artist Residencies, including The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of New Mexico in Taos, the “Escape to Create” residency at The Seaside Institute in Florida, and a Big Cypress Nature Preserve Artist Residency in Ochopee, Florida.
