Dolly Parton is an American treasure who continues to captivate one generation after another. Following her GRAMMY-winning bluegrass album 'The Grass Is Blue’ (1999), Parton hinted at another bluegrass-adjacent album in the works earlier this summer. Featured on the upcoming project are virtuosic musicians Jim VanCleve, Barry Abernathy and Darrell Webb, who make up three parts of “roots supergroup” (NPR) Appalachian Road Show.
Recognized by NPR All Things Considered, TODAY Show, Now This, Folk Alley, American Songwriter and more, Appalachian Road Show has established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of bluegrass and folk music.
Appalachian Road Show took home two IBMA Awards this year including Instrumental Group of the Year and New Artist of the Year, becoming one of only four artists to win multiple awards alongside Billy Strings, Sierra Hull and Dale Ann Bradley. At the 2020 IBMA Awards, Appalachian Road Show was the second-most nominated group with five nominations.
The “fierce and versatile” (American Songwriter) group released its ’Tribulation’ album in 2020, which NPR’s WPLN called a “masterpiece” and Folk Alley said “perfectly speaks to out dark and unsettling times.” In 2022, they’re set to release a follow up album, working with GRAMMY-winning engineer Shani Gandhi (Sarah Jarosz, Sierra Hull, Mandolin Orange).
