Today, buzzworthy indie rock artist Michigander, the sonic alter ego of Michigan native Jason Singer, has released his anticipated new EP, It Will Never Be The Same, via C3 Records. The 6-song collection, the fourth EP from Michigander available now digitally and on limited edition clear orange and tan vinyl, features the Top 5 Triple A radio hit “Stay Out Of It” and “In My Head” with Manchester Orchestra as well as current radio single “Superglue,” now impacting Alternative Radio and rising up the Triple A charts, currently in the Top 20. Coinciding with today’s EP release, Michigander has released the official music video for new single “Cannonball,” a love song co-written with Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional that was recently featured in an episode of Grey’s Anatomy and is poised to be a summer anthem. The release of It Will Never Be The Same and Michigander’s just-launched headlining tour were delayed last fall when Singer suffered a brutal leg break while filming a music video in Los Angeles. “It Will Never Be The Same is a collection of songs that's about being ok with change and striving to become a better human being,” shares Singer. “These songs were all created out of a season of life that was some of the absolute best times and some of the absolute worst times. I think as human beings we don't tend to change until we are forced to. We need a wakeup call. These last few years have been that for me. And these last four EPs have been a diary of how I've gotten here, and while I don’t think I've ‘arrived,’ I think I just stuck the landing.”
It Will Never Be The Same, produced and mixed by Tony Hoffer (Beck, Phoenix, M83), mastered by Dave Cooley (Spoon, Jimmy Eat World, Paramore), and recorded at L.A.’s Sunset Sound (with the exception of “In My Head” produced by Andy Hull and Robert McDowell of Manchester Orchestra), marks a creative transformation for Singer. The now Nashville-based singer, songwriter, producer, and guitarist worked with co-writers for the first time in the studio such as Shawn McConnell (Tim McGraw, Little Big Town, Brad Paisley) and Danen Reed Rector (Charlotte Sands, James Droll) in addition to Carrabba. These transitions are evident on It Will Never Be The Same through songs that ruminate on the trials of early adulthood and, stamped with Michigander’s trademark optimism, offer encouragement to take a sometimes necessary leap of faith for the sake of moving forward.
Michigander returned to the stage earlier this month for a series of performances at SXSW and officially kicked off the It Will Never Be The Same Tour in Phoenix this past Tuesday. The 21-date headlining tour, featuring Abby Holliday as a special guest, continues tonight with a sold-out show in San Diego and will bring Singer and his bandmates – Aaron Senor (drums), Jake LeMond (guitar), and Connor Robertson (bass) – all over the U.S. this spring, stopping in Los Angeles tomorrow (Saturday, April 1) and New York City on April 21 as well as Portland, Seattle, Boulder, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, among many other cities, before wrapping April 29 in Singer’s adopted hometown of Nashville.
