Singer-songwriter Kenny White will perform at Club Passim on June 9, following a rich and varied musical career. Transitioning from creating iconic jingles for Cheerios and Chevrolet to crafting love songs and ballads, White has evolved into a celebrated troubadour. His performances showcase a blend of original music, from humorous to heartfelt tunes, with White himself on piano and guitar. Americana artist Janie Barnett will open the show. Born in New York City and raised in Fort Lee, NJ, Kenny White embarked on his musical journey in the 1970s, initially touring as a keyboard player with Jonathan Edwards and later with Livingston Taylor during Linda Ronstadt’s iconic “Living in the USA” tour. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, White became a staple in the NYC studio scene, contributing to famous ad campaigns like “The Unsinkable Taste of Cheerios” and Chevrolet’s “Heartbeat of America,” as well as numerous Coca-Cola commercials. This extensive commercial work enabled him to collaborate with a host of renowned artists, including Linda Ronstadt, Gladys Knight, Mavis Staples, Ricky Skaggs, and Aaron Neville.
White’s talents also extend to the film industry, having contributed to soundtracks for Message in a Bottle, Where the Heart Is, and four films by indie director John Sayles. Moreover, he has appeared on numerous recordings by other musicians, including Marc Cohn’s platinum debut.
