Celebrated guitarist and National Flatpicking Champion Tyler Grant is set to release his seventh album, Flatpicker, on March 28. Today, Grant unveils his final single from the record, “Coming Home to Stay.”

“It's a burner of a bluegrass song that tells the story of a rambling musician who has resolved to settle down,” Grant says of the new track. “He’s realizing that ‘the grass ain’t greener on the other side and this old fence is just breaking my stride.’”

Craig Havighurst (WMOT) hails Grant as one of the best in the business, stating, “His natural habitat is as one of our finest bluegrass guitar players…”

“Coming Home to Stay” follows the release of “Goat Canyon Trestle,” a song Grant describes as being about “the largest wooden trestle ever built, which still stands in the Mojave Desert of Eastern San Diego County,” as well as the “Impossible Railroad” that was constructed between 1906 and 1919. “History songs are tricky, and I am very proud of this one,” Grant told The Bluegrass Situation. “The moral of the story is: If you take on the desert, it will always win.”

Having spent years on the road with artists including Abigail Washburn, Adrienne Young & Little Sadie, and the Drew Emmitt Band (which evolved into the Emmitt-Nershi Band featuring Bill Nershi of The String Cheese Incident), Grant followed the lure of Colorado’s Rockies in 2009. He will celebrate Flatpicker with two special Front Range shows:

March 22 at Swallow Hill Music in Denver
April 18 at eTown Hall in Boulder

On Flatpicker, instrumental gems like “Canyon Flatpicking,” “Where the Ocotillo Grows,” and “Sea of Cortez” evoke the spirit of wild places, while “Coming Home to Stay,” “The Beholder,” “Turn the Page,” “Waning Moon,” and “Orange Street” center on the universal desire for home and human connection. Tracks such as “The Tuk-Tuk,” “Depot Guitar,” and “Goat Canyon Trestle” chronicle musical adventures and historical tales alike, showcasing Grant’s gift for both storytelling and virtuosic flatpicking.

Flatpicker will be available across all digital platforms on March 28. For more information about Tyler Grant, upcoming tour dates, and to hear the new single “Coming Home to Stay,” visit www.tylergrant.com.
