Philadelphia-based folk-soul duo Native Harrow has just unveiled the first two singles from their eagerly anticipated album, "Divided Kind," set for release on September 13, 2024, via Different Time Records. The singles, "Borrowing Time" and "Goin' Nowhere," offer a tantalizing glimpse into the dynamic range and depth of the forthcoming LP.
"Borrowing Time"
Described as "a hazy tremolo-laden trip through dusty canyons and crystalline meadows," "Borrowing Time" has already premiered on The Bluegrass Situation and Holler. The song features Devin Tuel's evocative vocals paired with Stephen Harms' baritone guitar and Joe Harvey-Whyte's pedal steel, creating a soundscape that transports listeners to a world of introspective daydreams. Devin Tuel reflects on the inspiration behind the song: "I feel things very deeply and in trying times it often feels like life is a giant wheel rolling down a road... In writing this song, I realized that maybe being lost is better than having it all figured out and we’re all just borrowing time."

"Goin' Nowhere"
Dubbed "a soul transmission over incendiary bass and undulating layers of guiro, congas, tambourines, shakers, and handclaps," "Goin' Nowhere" premiered on WXPN. This track showcases a rich tapestry of instrumentation, highlighted by a fuzz guitar chorus and the dynamic presence of a Hammond B3 organ. Devin Tuel describes the song as a rhythmic companion for daily life: "I wanted this song to be something you could put on your headphones and walk down the street... there’s a backbeat and groove that takes a string of bad luck and turns it into a tune you can move to."
