SACRED ROSE will make its revolutionary debut at Chicagoland’s SeatGeek Stadium Campus from Friday, August 26 - Sunday, August 28, 2022, combining genre-bending lineups with experiential fan transparency for a first-of-its-kind festival experience.
A blooming love-letter to the sweet sounds of Americana, Psych-rock, Jam, Indie, Soul, Funk and Bluegrass, SACRED ROSE boasts an eclectic array of headliners such as Phil Lesh & Friends, Khruangbin, The War On Drugs, Black Pumas, Umphrey’s McGee, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Goose, STS9, Greensky Bluegrass, Kamasi Washington, Animal Collective, Margo Price, and many more.
SACRED ROSE will host three stages - The Canopy, The Vega, and The Dreamfield - with each daily stage lineup meticulously curated to feel like its own full-length, genre-specific concert. Pioneering a new frontier of experiential fan transparency, SACRED ROSE unveiled full set times before tickets sales began today because the festival organizers believe fans deserve to know exactly what they’re buying.
The nascent festival wants #RoseBuds to choose their own musical adventure; psych-rock purists or Americana devotees can buy single-day tickets to groove through their favorite genres, while those seeking sonic discovery can spend the weekend careening between a spectrum of sounds and stages. By unveiling full set times and offering both weekend and single day passes, SACRED ROSE’s mission of experiential fan transparency puts the power back in attendees’ hands to design their own optimal festival experience.
Similarly, SACRED ROSE bids farewell to the antiquated festival model of restricting jam bands to hour-long performances and forcing them to squeeze out their hits. Instead, extended sets ranging from 75 minutes to three hours will welcome exploratory, improvisational performances that showcase deep catalog cuts and soaring experimentation.
The Canopy will kick off with a marathon of rock, folk and bluegrass, headlined by legendary Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh and his Phil Lesh & Friends band, Grammy-winning country-classical five-piece Punch Brothers and indie-folk singer-songwriter City and Colour. On Saturday, The Canopy will flip to jamtronica heaven, headlined by renowned dance-infused psychedelic jam group STS9 and prominent livetronica outfit The Disco Biscuits. Sunday on The Canopy will close out with a live instrumentation mastery exhibition, headlined by Lesh’s collaborator Joe Russo in his Grateful Dead cover band Joe Russo’s Almost Dead and crunchy LA folk-rock group Dawes.
At The Vega, psych-rock fans will revel in Friday’s headlining performances by Grammy-winning 7-piece The War On Drugs, avant psychedelic-pop outfit Animal Collective, and experimental psychedelic pop and electronic artist Yves Tumor. Saturday’s lineup at The Vega will be a jam band masterclass, headlined by rock-fueled jam sextet Umphrey’s McGee and electronic-jam crossover quintet Lotus. The Vega will close on Sunday with a smattering of celebrated contemporary bands, headlined by psychedelia-tinged world music trio Khruangbin, modern jazz-master Kamasi Washington, and Australian funk/neo-soul outfit Hiatus Kaiyote.
The Dreamfield’s soulful, funktastic Friday will be headlined by psychedelic-soul duo Black Pumas, eight-piece modern soul outfit St. Paul and The Broken Bones, and Boston-bred funk-fusion group Lettuce. Saturday on The Dreamfield will be a clinic of jam-focused groovage, headlined by indie-jam five piece Goose, Grammy-nominated singer and multi-instrumentalist Cory Wong, and Nashville indie-jam band Moon Taxi. The Dreamfield Stage’s Sunday roster will be a bluegrass and blues bonanza, headlined by Michigan-bred five-piece Greensky Bluegrass, modern soul outfit blues-revival group The Wood Brothers, and Grammy-winning bluegrass band The Infamous Stringdusters Feat. Molly Tuttle.
SACRED ROSE’s Artist At Large, the Grammy-nominated, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Margo Price, will perform impromptu sit-ins alongside multiple acts throughout the weekend.
SACRED ROSE’s fan-first foresight stems from the festival organizers’ decades of experience producing, booking and throwing events across Chicago as well as founding festivals like North Coast, Hulaween, and Summer Camp. Having relocated North Coast to SeatGeek Stadium Campus in 2021 following the venue’s impressive renovation, SACRED ROSE’s organizers know exactly how to execute a successful festival on its own home field. Revelers will bask in the comfort of the Campus’ seven new astro turf fields as they saunter across the sprawling festival grounds and explore large-scale, interactive art installations.
SACRED ROSE is about the love of music, inspired by the halcyon days of the 60s counterculture concerts and playful hippie spirit. The name pays homage to both SACRED ROSE founder Michael Berg’s own professional pianist Grandfather, who instilled his love of music at a young age, and The Grateful Dead, who were the progenitors of this culture.
