Rhino’s Quadio series continues into the New Year with a brand-new collection of high-quality quadrophonic releases. Billy Cobham Spectrum (1973), Aretha Franklin Live At Fillmore West (1971), Curtis Mayfield Roots (1971), and The Spinners Pick Of The Litter (1975). These four seminal albums have been mastered from their original analog four-track Quad mixes.

Quadraphonic sound, or 4.0 surround sound, utilizes four audio channels connected to four speakers positioned at the corners of a listening space. The multi-tracked audio is mixed dimensional, immersing the listener in an expansive soundscape.

The collection is available today as Blu-ray discs with a quadraphonic and 192/24 stereo mix. Currently exclusive to Rhino.com and select Warner Music Group stores worldwide, each title retails for $24.98, with a bundle of all four available for $79.98. Order HERE.

Aretha Franklin played three brilliant nights - March 5, 6, and 7 - at San Francisco’s legendary Fillmore West venue. Between the three nights, Franklin adorned the audience with powerhouse performances of Otis Redding’s “Respect,” Bread’s “Make It With You,” and the Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby,” earning the record a #1 and #7 spots on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and 200 charts.

Legendary fusion drummer Billy Cobham stepped onto the scene with his groundbreaking efforts with Miles Davis and the Mahavishnu Orchestra before breaking into his solo career with Spectrum. The staple Jazz Fusion album was recorded at the infamous Electric Lady Studio, where tracks like “Stratus,” “Red Baron,” and “Le Lis” were crafted in one to two takes. Side artists include Tommy Bolin and John Tropea on guitar, Jan Hammer on keyboard, and Lee Skylar on bass.

Roots is regarded as one of Curtis Mayfield’s best works and an undeniable 1970s classic. Charting at #6 on Billboard’s Top Soul Albums chart, the album features hit tracks “We Got to Have Peace,” “Keep on Keeping On,” and “Get Down.”

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® inductees The Spinners released their sixth studio album, Pick Of The Litter, the last to be produced by Philadelphia soul architect Thom Bell. The quintet’s album reached #2 on the Billboard Top Soul Albums, and the signature song, “Games People Play,” featured in Grand Theft Auto IV.]
