About the Album:

Bassist and session artist Scott Ward has long revered the history of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, its musicians, and the iconic "Muscle Shoals Sound." Over the years, Ward has worked with and learned from the world-class musicians and engineers of the region, many of whom knew Wilson Pickett, wrote with him, or played on his biggest records. This experience served as the inspiration behind this tribute album, which brings together a diverse array of talented artists to interpret Pickett’s classic songs, infusing them with new energy while honoring the spirit of the originals.

Wilson Pickett's Legacy:

Born in Prattville, Alabama, and later moving to Detroit, Wilson Pickett (1941-2006) began his musical journey singing in the church before joining The Violinaires and later The Falcons in 1959. His career took off during his tenure at Atlantic Records, with his breakthrough single "In the Midnight Hour" (1965), recorded at STAX in Memphis, Tennessee. After several recording sessions at STAX, Pickett moved to FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, where he recorded some of his biggest hits, including "Mustang Sally," "Funky Broadway," and his chart-topping pop hit "Land of 1000 Dances." A five-time GRAMMY nominee and a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee (1991), Wilson Pickett’s contributions to soul music are legendary, and this tribute album serves as a testament to his lasting influence.
