With Standing on the Moon, The Rex Foundation looks forward to an exceptional night of music with our annual return to the historic Fillmore Auditorium. Set up in festive cabaret style with reserved seating on the floor, The Fillmore, with its beauty and iconic connection to the Grateful Dead, sets the stage for this special occasion. At the pre-concert reception, enjoy hearty finger foods and beverages as you reconnect with friends and family. Your generous reception/concert ticket purchase of $250, $500, or $1,000, of which all but $100 is a charitable contribution, will fund Rex Foundation grant making. Join us as we come together to celebrate the music and spirit of our community.
We're thrilled to be joined by our friends Leftover Salmon. Looking back over the past 25 years of rootsy, Americana, string-based music, the impact of their music is impossible to deny. Formed in Boulder, CO in 1989 the group was one of the first bluegrass bands to add drums and tour rock & roll bars, helping Salmon become a pillar of the jam band scene and unwitting architects of the jam grass genre. In its present configuration, the band is comprised of founding members Vince Herman (vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin) and Drew Emmitt (vocals, mandolin, acoustic and electric guitar, mandola, fiddle) along with Andy Thorn (vocals, acoustic and electric banjo, National guitar); Greg Garrison (vocals, acoustic and electric bass, acoustic guitar); Alwyn Robinson (drums, percussion), and the exciting recent addition of Little Feat keyboardist Bill Payne.
Straight out of Woodstock, NY, soulful songstress Amy Helm will be performing with her band, The Handsome Strangers. Amy's deep musical roots were enriched by a lifetime of exposure to the finest expressions of American musical tradition. Combined with her stunning vocal and other creative gifts, those roots have grown up to reveal a spellbinding artist who moves easily through a broad range of musical styles. The daughter of music legend Levon Helm and singer/songwriter Libby Titus Fagen, Helm wields a powerful voice that can both stir and soothe, whether she is singing traditional gospel, blues standards or her own heartfelt compositions. She is a gifted musician on both mandolin and drums, and has clearly absorbed the lessons of the many other accomplished artists with whom she has shared stages, including Mavis Staples, Emmylou Harris, and Joan Osborne as well as other uniquely American performers like Dr. John and Hubert Sumlin.
