Last year's release of Life In The City characterized a new era for the Brooklyn-based nonet, Turkuaz. Since the record's release last September, the band has been touring nationally non-stop, building a grassroots, but rabid following, and bringing their infectious blend of funk, alternative rock, R&B and psychedelia to listeners far and wide.
In May, the band announced Afterlife Vol. 1, a collection of demos and previously unreleased recordings from the Life In The City era, with a second installment promised for release later in the summer. Today, Turkuaz shares the second part of the Afterlife journey with Afterlife Vol. 2, which can be found on all digital platforms now: http://smarturl.it/y8asya

“With the second and final installment of Afterlife, all the tiny seedlings of songs we planted over the last two years have now been watered and grown into a rich tapestry of flora...or something like that," expresses Turkuaz bandleader and frontman, Dave Brandwein. "Across these two EPs, you will find different sides of Turkuaz, some of which you may have never seen!"
Featuring additional unreleased tracks "Mister Man," "Better Get Ready," and "Between the Lines", alongside longtime live favorite, "Change," and a demo version of fan-favorite "If I Ever Fall Asleep," Afterlife Vol. 2 adds another layer of intrigue to the band's already colorful collection.
On "Better Get Ready," Brandwein elaborates, "this track takes a far deeper dive into the rock sound than we ever dove before, and we do hope fans are indeed 'ready' like the song suggests they be."
The Afterlife collection was captured in various studio locations, including More Sound in Syracuse, The Bunker in Brooklyn, and Brandwein's newly founded laboratory in Brooklyn, Galaxy Smith Studios, which he has put to good use since it's inception.
With the Life In The City era now behind them, Turkuaz looks forward optimistically. Their journey continues with festival dates throughout the U.S. for the rest of the year, and overseas for a premiere performance in Tokyo, Japan with a two-night stint at the Blue Note Tokyo, and a debut appearance in Australia at Caloundra Music Festival this October.
