The Wallflowers will perform their acclaimed 1996 album Bringing Down the Horse as well as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Long After Dark in their entirety on October 2, 2024 at the Palace Theatre. It will be The Wallflowers’ first Los Angeles headline performance in over a decade and will be the first time the band will play Bringing Down the Horse in full. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, May 10 at 10 am PST.
Jakob Dylan said, “Coming back to LA after such a long time, we wanted to do something special and unique for our fans. We decided to play what seems to be our fan’s favorite Wallflowers album, and for us, we wanted to play one of our favorite Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ records.”
The Wallflowers released their universally acclaimed Bringing Down the Horse LP in 1996. The album sold over 4 million copies and yielded 4 singles in “One Headlight,” “The Difference,” “Three Marlenas,” and “6th Avenue Heartache.” The band won “Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group” and “One Headlight” was awarded “Best Rock Song” at the 1998 Grammy Awards. A massive hit to this day, “One Headlight” topped the Billboard “Greatest of All Time Adult Alternative Songs” chart in 2021. The success of Bringing Down the Horse launched a career that has now spanned three decades.
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ Long After Dark is considered to be one of the band’s finest. Having admired the songwriter and group, Petty personally requested that Jakob Dylan induct him into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Their friendship came into focus in the 2018 documentary film Echo in the Canyon, which was Executive Produced and starred Dylan. It was the last on-screen appearance by Tom Petty and was one of the top 10 biggest theatrical documentaries released that year.
The Wallflowers released their much-anticipated album, Exit Wounds, in 2021 via New West Records. The record found the band’s signature sound — lean, potent and eminently entrancing — intact. Uncut Magazine said, “...Exit Wounds rocks with smouldering intensity,” while MOJO said in their 4 star review, “It’s his best original work by some years.” Pitchfork said “the depth of experience deepens the traditionalism of Dylan’s music,” KCRW stated “Exit Wounds is a beacon for us all, a tribute to the rough year we’ve made it through” and SPIN called it “...a stunning body of work by anyone’s standards.”
