YMSB--Adam Aijala, Dave Johnston, Ben Kaufmann, Jacob Joliff and Allie Kral-have been on tour all year long, and their soundman, Ben Hines, records it all. After each tour, Ben selects the best jams for the Hines' Finds series. As for the duo known as Handmade Moments, Anna Moss and Joel Ludford were brought to the band's awareness by YMSB bassist Ben Kaufman who saw them busking at a farmer's market in California. He fell in love with their sound and implored his bandmates to take them on the road, where they supported YMSB on shows from coast to coast.
Casual collaborative jams on the Yonder bus turned into a nightly sit-in for Handmade Moments playing a cover tune from the collection of songs they worked through in those bus jams. The friendship and musical spirit that grew through Winter Tour 2019 is displayed through the powerful collection of songs documented in this fully collaborative edition of Hines' Finds.
About Handmade Moments: An amalgam of Beatnik porch-jazz, mystical mountain song, circus folk-hop with a dash of R&B chanteuse, Handmade Moments are kaleidoscopic children of the Ozarks. Anna Moss and Joel Ludford are kindred spirits and multi-instrumentalists, reveling in everything from bass clarinet, saxophone, sousaphone, mandolin, and stand-up bass. Their 2018 release, Paw Paw Tree, is ripe with plain-spoken poetics woven within swirling, funky rhythms, and atop melodies that tug on the heartstrings. Their wildly-popular live performances run the gamut, bathing in Southern roots, R&B, folk, jazz and more.
