Nashville's quintet Moon Taxi stormed Chicago with a high energy concert for a wildly thrilled house of fans. In a few short years they have gone from playing Wicker Park's taste-making club Subterranean to much larger venues, this night Concord Music Hall. Hitting the festivals has proven solid in growing their fans.
Frontman, lead singer and guitarist Trevor Terndrup possesses energetic presence and infectious charm along with band mates Spencer Thomson (lead guitarist, producer), Tommy Putnam (bass) Wes Bailey (keyboards) and Tyler Ritter (drums). They grip the crowd from the moment they hit the stage. But it is their music and playing in the end that speaks for itself.
Peppered in the set they worked in a few fun covers of "Sweet Dreams (are Made of This)" by The Eurythmics and The Eagles "Hotel California" tipping their hat to the spectrum of their diverse influences.
Twice, members of the opening act Too Many Zooz came out to liven up the music, First baritone saxiphonist Leo Pellegrino sparked up "Make Your Mind Up" and then again the trio; Leo plus bandmates Matt Doe on trumpet and David "King of Sludge" Parks with his second line-style bass drums, helped close the set playing on their recent single "Too High" before wrapping up with a couple of final encores.
