San Fransico native Natalie Cressman played her first solo show in Chicago Saturday, Nov 21st. to an enthusiastic crowd who came out dispite the first snow of the winter. For as icy cold it was to get to The Tonic Room, it was steamin' hot inslde for this crowd.
The Tonic Room Chicago
Primarily recognized as a member of the Trey Anastasio band as well as performing with jazz luminaries Nicholas Payton, Wycliffe Gordon, and Peter Apfelbaum.Ms. Cressman holds her own fronting her 4 member jazz band. As a huge fan of jazz trombone I risk coming from a bias however judging from the audience, the passionate response was undeniable. Holding down both front vocals and tronbone, her all-original music was accesable crossing that perfect balance of pop jazz with musical depth. But is it any wonder? Her father, Jeff Cressman, is a recording engineer, trombonist, and longtime member of Santana. With that in your DNA, God knows where she is going to eclipse her parent's music chops.
Check out her new release 'Turn The Sea'.
