Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad
The third annual Northlands Music and Arts Festival rolled into Day Two on June 14, 2024, with what can only be described as a stacked, jam-band-friendly lineup. This event took place at the Cheshire Fairgrounds in Swanzey, NH, and went on without any rain during the live music.
Earlier this year, as they began rolling out music from Love In Time, their seventh full-length album, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad (GPGDS) kicked things off by showcasing two diverse singles. The album features a fresh collaborative approach that embraces the "squad" in their name.
Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad’s fresh collaborative approach on their upcoming album Love In Time (out April 7 on Easy Star Records) - which finds the band leaning hard into the “squad” in their band name - is on full display on the record’s second single: “Revolution,” co-produced with Alborosie, and featuring Josh Swain of The Movement on vocals.
“It’s exciting to work with talented people outside the strict structure of a band,” says bassist/singer James Searl of Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad (GPGDS). That statement rang true during the creation of their diverse new album Love In Time, which comes out April 7th via Easy Star Records. Influenced by the need for more social and personal connection during the pandemic, GPGDS wanted to lean into the “squad” in their name by working and collaborating with artists outside of their tight knit circle.
Welland, Ontario based reggae-rockers Street Pharmacy have teamed up with east coast industry veterans and Rochester, New York legends Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad on their newest single “They Don’t Give a $$$$.” The song, available for streaming starting July 3rd, 2020, tackles the root of the world’s rising tensions amid a year full of crises. The song also cleverly outlines the ongoing manipulation of power and modern corruption over humanity-focused ambitions.
Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad's Make It Better has debuted at #1 on the Billboard Reggae Chart. Make It Better (released September 16, 2016 on Rootfire Cooperative) is the band's sixth studio album and their second release to claim the #1 spot on the Billboard Reggae Chart.
Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad (GPGDS) are on a mission to “Make It Better.” The new album from the Rochester, New York-based band addresses this theme, not just through music, but through art, conversation, and everyday living. Even the smallest actions on a local level can produce positive change on a global scale. Singer-bassist James Searl explains, “There is a lot of intention in this release. We had a purpose to prove to ourselves recording this album.
With the 2012 release of Country, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad (GPGDS) proved their musical identity to be as undefinable as their name. The Rochester, NY-based quintet was known as a reggae-jam band, relentlessly touring on the back of their debut album Slow Down (2006). Six years later, GPGDS released the Americana-themed Country which defied expectations for a reggae band's sophomore release.
New York's Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad kick off their Steady Tour tonight in Fort Collins, CO at Aggie Theatre. The eight-show run concludes in Steamboat Springs on February 14. This is the quintet's first visit to Colorado in over two years.
Kicking off one of the few final stops on the Winter Greens Tour, the first band to start the night off was Los Angeles-based Orgone. Quite the eclectic ensemble (from fabulous afros to cowboy hats and boots), Orgone’s rhythm section originally got their start back in the nineties and it wasn’t until 2001 that they brought on Fanny Franklin to lay down the lead vocals.
