Grateful Dead

Sanuk, a division of Deckers Brands, today announced the fourth iteration of its collaboration with iconic rock band, Grateful Dead, powered by Warner Music Artist Services. As an evolution of Sanuk’s sustainability journey, the men’s and women’s collection utilizes the power of natural resources like algae and pays homage to the band’s legacy with groovy custom tie-dye patterns and the iconic Grateful Dead lightning bolt logo in Sanuk’s most popular styles.

Great news from Deadhead Stories: Since it first launched in 2019, Deadhead Stories–a now-legendary compendium of crowdsourced Grateful Dead lore, culture, miracles, and inspiration with the motto "a simple act of kindness goes a long way"–has sold out three printings. Deadhead Stories has been making regular contributions to the Rex Foundation ever since--$7,750 to date! --and we’ve been able to support quite a bit of good work as a result.

Some 14 years ago, Donna Jean and the Tricksters (Donna Jean Godchaux and the Zen Tricksters, basically) put out an album of the same name.  It included a song called “Shelter.”  As the pandemic took over our lives, Donna Jean thought about the new meaning of the song and….but let me let her tell you about it:

Sol Roots recently released a psychedelic video showcasing a unique, original, funky arrangement of Grateful Dead's "Sugaree" from the album 'Live at The Hamilton'. The EP was recorded live in front of a sold-out audience in February 2020 in Washington D.C. The recording offers an enticing blend of funk, jam, roots, and blues that prove light-hearted and fun, while also being soulful and sincere.

In partnership with Warner Music Artist Services, Hiouchi Jewels hand made “Rose & Bolt” Grateful Dead jewelry collection is now available for pre orders at RoseandBolt.com. Shipping for orders throughout North America starts April 1.

As the week winds to a close, we are reflecting back with some thoughts about the undoubtedly historic run of musical performances that just occurred this past week at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY: Billy Strings’ “The Deja Vu Experiments,” which saw the bluegrass guitarist and his quartet play six consecutive shows at the rock palace, live-streamed to what was reported as over 30,000 viewers tuning in.

I last reviewed a streamed Billy Strings show in July. A lot has changed since then. Online concerts have grown more sophisticated, with platforms like Twitch taking the tech out of the artist’s hands. Billy’s hair? That too has changed from the oft braided locks of an up and comer to the mullet of someone who has arrived.

263 submissions and counting! You've certainly outdone yourselves thus far. Still working on the perfect take? Whether you're rolling solo or gathering up the gang, it's high time to get your chips cashed in. Simply upload your video to YouTube, tag it "deadcoversproject" and we'll make it available to view on the band's official YouTube channel.

Six nights of musical improvisation from Billy Strings start tomorrow, streaming live from the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY.
