Acclaimed singer-songwriter Sarah Brindell breathes new life into Luiz Bonfá’s classic with her latest single, "Samba De Orfeu," set to release on October 18th. This heartfelt reinterpretation is a musical celebration of simplicity and the beauty of everyday moments, inspired by Brazilian rhythms and the myth of Orpheus.
"Samba De Orfeu is a celebration of simplicity," Brindell shares. "It reminds us that music is in the birds, the wind, and the everyday moments we often overlook. It's about connecting to something greater and feeling that sense of joy."
The song's journey spans over a decade. Brindell's vocals were first recorded at Chillhouse Studios in 2012. In 2023, she collaborated with guitarist Pablo Miguez in Zurich, whose evocative guitar adds depth to the track. The song also features flugelhorn by Yaure Muniz, recorded remotely, and incorporates the organic sounds of birds captured outside Brindell’s window, tying into the song’s theme of natural beauty.
Unlike her recent original compositions, this cover holds a special place in Brindell's heart. "The lyrics in this song invite listeners to find beauty in each moment, to celebrate music as a part of our everyday lives," she reflects. "I believe that even if our minds forget the essence of music, our hearts will always recognize its power."
"Samba De Orfeu" is more than just a cover; it's a homage to Bonfá's genius and a reinterpretation that bridges the gap between myth and modern-day life. With English lyrics penned by Evelyn Rosenthal, the song brings to life the spirit of Orpheus, the mythical musician whose melodies transcend time and space.
"Orpheus sings to wake the dawn," Brindell muses. "I like the idea of my heart hearing music before I do. This idea of music being present in every moment, as a bridge between dream and reality, is something I hope listeners feel when they hear this track."
