New York City and Halloween has always been a powerful combination for the best of music events in the Gotham underground. An often misty and dark setting of murky skyscrapers accompanies the epic jams that have been through this city over the years. Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead to name a few have played memorable Halloween shows in the city and as Jerry Garcia told the audience on the live feed for the famous simulcast show broadcast throughout the nation at MSG, “stay tuned folks the show is going to be frightening!”. Paying homage to the traditions of this fine city are Hedgehog Entertainment and production partner Will Schwerd who have brought together a unique group of artists for an event called “Creatures of Brooklyn” being held at the Knitting Factory Halloween night October 31st. Hedgehog Entertainment is a Grassroots entertainment company based in NYC, working on revitalizing live music events for a new generation. Hedgehog’s concept for Creatures of Brooklyn – in line with their open-minded approach is to give up and coming artists that echo the legacy of the great jam bands a chance to make a difference once again. Halloween night has serious potential for producing some of the most epic jams this city has to offer… and of course, a celebration of all that is haunted! The bands featured are Annie in the Water, a Vermont based Group that has been rocketing to popularity after a few high-profile Jam shows. They recently announced their opening slot for Twiddle on November 11 in Boston (a day before Dead and Co. at the Garden) and are providing support for O.A.R on October 25 in Syracuse.
Schooley Mountain Band is influenced by artists that have had a strong and sexy impact on the Jam Scene from Grace Potter to Tedeschi Trucks Band. A supergroup formed from bands that have all had their impact on the festival circuit, this group's tight sound and improvisational jams have been paving the way for the bands looking to stand out throughout the scene. The late show for the evening are Brooklyn based Jazztronica group - Gowanus. This band is named for the toxic canal running through the heart of Brooklyn into the east river –just about as spooky as it gets! This group has been tearing through venues by providing the soundtrack for the late-night pulse of the city and is sure to keep Creatures of Brooklyn rocking until the morning light. Unique Events are a hallmark of Hedgehog entertainment, Creatures of Brooklyn is no exception, this event will be creature-themed and the producers are promoting to party-goers to arrive in their finest creature attire. Even the bands will be dressing up, such as Annie in the Water as Werewolves! There will be a photo booth and other fun party gags on site to delivery the ultimate Halloween party experience!
