In the lead up to his fourth studio album ‘Heart Shaped Rock’, Canadian singer-songwriter Devarrow returns with the double release of ‘Holy Ghost’ and ‘All The Little Things’, both hailed to release July 17th.
Shrouded in a touch of mystery, the origins of ‘Holy Ghost’ remain elusive, to which Devarrow cannot recall its conception. While the song debuted at a 2018 concert in Munich, Germany, its exact origins remain unclear, adding to its intrigue. Later, during a stripped-down DIY demo session at a remote farmhouse in Nova Scotia, Devarrow meticulously re-recorded the song from his vault of demos he had collected over the years. However, the only element he truly retouched were the vocals, infusing them with a raw authenticity that marks the song's evolution.
Of the recording process, Devarrow says “At the time of recording, I had a terrible ear infection, so my vocals were terrible as I couldn't hear myself. The vocals were recorded fresh during the creation of Heart Shaped Rock, but all other instruments are from the original demo. This song is a testament to the fact that you can recreate recordings, but you can’t always recreate a vibe. I tried to re-record this song in its entirety, but in the end, I realised the demo was just the best.”
Alongside ‘Holy Ghost,’ Devarrow offers fans a deeper cut with the B-side ‘All The Little Things.’ While the song's initial listen might evoke a classic love song, Devarrow reveals a more introspective approach.
“I’m never actually talking about a distinct person, and instead, am often referring to the relationship with oneself, and the desire to find love within oneself.” Devarrow explains “All The Little Things is an ode to my twenties, an obituary of sorts. I found my twenties to be marked by anxiety, depression, and a deep sense of insecurity. I’ve welcomed my thirties with open arms, and am happy to have grown so much over the past several years. This song is about the end of one chapter in life, and the beginning of another”

Graham Ereaux, the musician behind Devarrow, wears many hats: songwriter, producer, carpenter, surfer, and nature enthusiast. Nestled in a quaint coastal town in rural Canada, his life and surroundings heavily influence his music. Self-described as “Carpenter-surf-folk-pop best listened to while driving down quiet rural roads or out to the beach,” his upcoming album ‘Heart Shaped Box’ evokes echoes of Fleet Foxes, Noah Kahan, and Peter Bjorn and John. Infusing his music with a vibrant energy, he diverges from folk's typical sombre tone to celebrate life's simple joys against lively backdrops. His lyrics, inspired by routine and literature, blend heartfelt introspection with catchy melodies, providing a fresh lens on small-town Canadian life. Recorded at his DIY home studio, Devarrow embraces folk's depth, injecting it with new perspectives while honouring its origins, revitalising the genre in the process.
