New Jersey-raised and Brooklyn-based artist and producer FLAMINGOSIS, the creative project of Aaron Velasquez, has made a name for himself based on his innovative musical stylings, seamlessly melding together soul, funk, jazz, hip-hop, and electronic. Today (2/13), he’s announcing news that his next album, his sixth full-length project titled Better Will Come, will be released on May 10 via his own label Kahuna Style. The collection will find Flamingosis in his most authentic self, bearing more of himself and his own personal journey.
To celebrate the news of his upcoming record, Flamingosis is sharing the album’s debut single and video, the uplifting “Feel Yourself” featuring viral content creator Marc Rebillet. As made evident by the song’s lyric, “Nobody’s feeling you, gotta feel yourself / Nobody’s gonna feel it for you baby,” the groovy dance track stands as a personal anthem to celebrate self-love. “You can either be your greatest enemy or greatest friend,” Flamingosis explains. “You have to believe and love yourself first and foremost. Beautiful things will start falling into place soon after that happens. Thank you Marc ‘Loop Daddy’ Rebillet for relaying this important message.”

Extending a creative arc without comparison, Flamingosis strikes a deep emotional chord on Better Will Come. Handcrafted electronic beats, meet live instrumentation, spiked with funk in the center of the dancefloor (right underneath the disco ball). The ensuing overflow of energy might just inspire you to get up and move, fall in love, or even change your life.
“Everyone wants to get better in some way,” he states. “The album highlights my own personal experience of growing, and you can potentially relate your story to what I went through. I learned a lot of hard lessons, but I made a conscious effort to grow in every way—not just musically, but physically, mentally, and spiritually. I did a lot of inner work, and I channeled these experiences into the music. If you pursue self-improvement, life improves around you too.”
In support of the new music, Flamingosis will hit the road with a band for the very first time. The Better Will Come Tour kicks off May 17 with a run of west coast dates including stops in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento, Portland and Seattle, among others. Joining Flamingosis onstage, DJing and playing saxophone, will be The Bodega Groove Collective, an all-star band of musicians including Nico Jimenez on percussion (OPIUO live band), Ian Gilley on keys (DIASTRATA [formerly RECESS]), Drew Birch on guitar (DIASTRATA [formerly RECESS]) and Nate Miller on trumpet.
The group–alongside occasional Bodega Groove Collective players Jeff Franca on drums (Thievery Corporation), Dan Africano on bass (Thievery Corporation), Drew Sayers on saxophone (The Motet) and Scott Flynn on trombone (ODESZA live band)–debuted their stage show recently in front of a sold-out crowd at Denver’s Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom.
