Goose's tenth anniversary celebration at Los Angeles' iconic Greek Theatre on September 27, 2024, marked a triumphant milestone in the band’s journey from their debut at Seaside Tavern in Stamford, Connecticut, to headlining one of the nation’s most revered stages. The evening was a celebration of Goose's decade-long evolution, with a performance that highlighted their dynamic range and deep-rooted connection with their fans.
The night kicked off with the theatrical flair of "Dr. Darkness," where Rick Mitarotonda's powerful vocals and electrifying guitar set the stage for the evening. "Hot Love & The Lazy Poet" kept the momentum going, featuring a standout solo from drummer Cotter Ellis, whose seamless integration into the band has been a highlight of 2024. "Turned Clouds," the opening track from their 2016 album Moon Cabin, invited spirited improvisation over a New Orleans-style backbea.
As the set progressed, Goose delivered an upbeat rendition of the fan-favorite "Echo of a Rose," showcasing the dark and intrepid improvisation that has characterized their fall tour. The band ventured into a deep trance-inspired jam, riding a wave of high-energy four on the floor beats. The transition into Ilsey Juber’s indie ode "No California" brought a cheeky local flair to the mix. "Big Modern!" followed with its slick muscle car Americana vibe, delivering a powerful jam before concluding with an epic chorus. The first set closed with "Give it Time," a breathtaking song that crescendos with harmonious vocals and a soaring guitar solo.
The second set launched with a high-energy cover of The Who's "Eminence Front," seamlessly blending into "Dripfield," the title track from their 2022 album. “Dripfield” shined with a blissful, twenty-minute jam, before the band upped the momentum with "Yeti." Multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach took center stage, igniting the crowd with a scorching guitar solo. The jam transitioned into a lively cover of Foster the People’s "Pumped Up Kicks," reaching a soaring conclusion that had the capacity crowd dancing along.
As the set continued, the return of "Arise" was a special highlight, marking its first appearance since March 2023. The second set closed with the beloved "Arcadia," a high-octane tune that epitomized the band’s ability to blend intricate jams with catchy melodies. Goose returned for an encore, delivering a rousing performance of "Hot Tea," which prompted a venue-wide singalong.
The first leg of Goose’s fall tour wraps up tonight with a performance at Stanford, CA’s Frost Amphitheater. Following a one-off appearance at Memphis, TN’s Mempho Festival (10/4), tour resumes in late October with appearances in Nashville, Asheville, Miami, and more.
