TAJ MAHAL

Taj Mahal - July 2nd, 2021

Friday,

July 2nd

with special guest Gaby Moreno

If anyone knows where to find the blues, it’s Taj Mahal. A brilliant artist with a musicologist’s mind, he has pursued and elevated the roots of beloved sounds with boundless devotion and skill. Then, as he traced origins to the American South, the Caribbean, Africa, and elsewhere, he created entirely new sounds, over and over again. As a result, he’s not only a god to rock-and-roll icons such as Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones, but also a hero to ambitious artists toiling in obscurity who are determined to combine sounds that have heretofore been ostracized from one another. No one is as simultaneously traditional and avant-garde.

REBIRTH BRASS BAND

Rebirth Brass Band - 7/3 & 7/4/2021

Saturday, July 3rd & Sunday, July 4th

with special guests Destani wolf (7/3) & The Funky Gators (7/4)

Hailed by the New York Times as “a New Orleans institution,” the Rebirth Brass Band have been at the forefront of the brass band revival that they helped kick off over 30 years ago. Formed by the Frazier brothers, Phil and Keith, along with Basin Street labelmate Kermit Ruffins in 1983, The Rebirth Brass Band has gone from playing on corners in the French Quarter to selling out concert halls across the world and appearing in David Simon’s HBO hit Treme. “Rebirth can be precise whenever it wants to,” says The New York Times, “but it’s more like a party than a machine. It’s a working model of the New Orleans musical ethos: as long as everybody knows what they’re doing, anyone can cut loose.” No band exemplifies the essence and soul of New Orleans like Rebirth Brass Band.

About Paper Moon Presents & Measure for Measure:

We're longtime Bay Area concert producers who have enjoyed years of Shakespearian performances as audience members at the gorgeous Bruns Amphitheater. With the Paper Moon Presents series, we're combining our passions, by bringing perfectly presented concerts to this amazing, unique spot in the Berkeley hills.

We’ve put on concerts and events of every size and type. We started off learning our trade at Bill Graham Presents over twenty years ago. Since then, we’ve produced shows at Bay Area venues including the Fillmore, Warfield, Greek, Bill Graham Civic, Chase Center, UC Theatre Berkeley, San Jose Civic, and more others than we can count. We put on Alice Radio’s free festivals in Golden Gate Park for fifteen years. We closed down Van Ness Avenue to produce five simultaneous stages for the SF Symphony’s Black and White Ball. We produced the Finish areas of the Nike Women’s Marathon and Bay to Breakers for many years, and produced Nike events all around North America. We’ve built a site to host fifty thousand people for a day, and we’ve created exclusive boutique events for fifty people. We know how to make it all work, and work smoothly!

The Measure for Measure Concert Series at the Bruns will also feature craft vendors, nonprofits tabling, and picnic meals for sale. The venue, nestled in the woods on protected watershed just outside of Berkeley, has presented theatrical shows for years, but we’re thrilled to open it to concertgoers as well.
