Amid speculation about the festival's future, the High Sierra Music Festival is thrilled to confirm its return for its 33rd annual celebration over the July 4th weekend, 2025. Reinvigorated and reimagined under the leadership of longtime producer David “Dave” Margulies, the festival promises to blend iconic favorites with fresh discoveries, reaffirming its status as one of the most cherished music gatherings in the country.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Feather River Canyon at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds, High Sierra offers an intimate, 4-day music and camping experience just four hours from San Francisco and one hour north of Lake Tahoe.
The festival’s eclectic programming will span genres from bluegrass to funk, Americana to international sounds, and jam bands to singer-songwriters. Beyond the music, attendees can enjoy vibrant parades, Playshops, yoga, late-night kickball, a Family Village, artisan crafts, and the natural beauty of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
David Margulies, producer and longtime co-curator, shared his vision:
"My goal is to introduce fans to music they’ve never heard while continuing the legacy of the sounds that make High Sierra special. Our community—fans, staff, vendors, and artists—are the heartbeat of this festival. Their passion has helped us thrive for 32 years, and we’re ready to carry that magic forward."
What Sets High Sierra Apart
From world-class performances to intimate troubadour sessions, the festival fosters a spirit of collaboration and spontaneity. Attendees will witness once-in-a-lifetime artist collaborations, immerse themselves in theme camps, and embrace the creative energy of a dedicated community.
As Steve Poltz, High Sierra mainstay, describes it:
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year—parades, hugs, music, and laughter in every corner. High Sierra is a playground for the soul, and I can’t wait to be part of it again!”
High Sierra remains a truly immersive festival experience with an anticipated attendance of under 10,000, offering a more personal and connected environment than larger festivals.
