Following an unforgettable GRAMMY Week celebrating the legacy of The Grateful Dead, Bent River Records proudly releases “Box of Rain,” a heartfelt tribute to Phil Lesh and The Grateful Dead, featuring Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon. This collaboration infuses the beloved classic with a fresh, roots-driven sound, blending MASSEY’s emotive style with Herman’s signature warmth.
"We deeply miss Phil and Jerry Garcia and wish they were here to celebrate their incredible MusiCares honor, but their spirit lives on through the music," says MASSEY, who was inspired to record the track following Lesh’s passing on October 24, 2024. “Box of Rain was always one of Phil’s most personal songs, and reinterpreting it felt like the perfect way to honor his memory.”
Carrying love, loss, and healing themes, the track is a fitting homage to one of rock’s most legendary figures.
Recorded at Dockside Studio, the song features an all-star ensemble of musicians:
Charlie Wooton – Bass, Co-Producer
Vince Herman – Vocals
Daniel Groover & Peter Oravetz – Guitars
Michael Lemmier – Keys
Doug Belote – Drums
Produced by JoeBaby Michaels, the visionary behind Bent River Records, Box of Rain was mastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.
Accompanying the release is a music video directed by Jim Mimna, which expands on the song’s themes of connection and remembrance. With rich, evocative imagery, the video pays tribute to Phil Lesh and the enduring legacy of The Grateful Dead.
