Celebrating the 20th anniversary of their groundbreaking 2004 album Good News For People Who Love Bad News, Modest Mouse is thrilled to announce their ‘Good News For People Who Love Bad News’ 20-Year Anniversary Tour. Kicking off on October 28, 2024, in Honolulu, HI, the tour will feature multiple nights in Portland, Los Angeles, and conclude with three highly anticipated shows at Brooklyn Steel in New York City in early November.
Reviewed by The New York Times as “the best Modest Mouse album yet,” Good News For People Who Love Bad News captured the band's distinctive blend of existential lyricism and innovative soundscapes, helping them break out of the underground rock scene. Tickets for the tour go on sale Friday, August 23, at 10:00 AM local time. For more information, visit modestmouse.com.
Released by Epic Records on April 6, 2004, the double-platinum album boasts hits like the 5x platinum Modern Rock chart-topping single “Float On,” the gold-certified “The World At Large,” and fan-favorite “Ocean Breathes Salty.” Written by Isaac Brock, Dann Gallucci, Eric Judy, and Benjamin Weikel, with contributions from Tom Peloso, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and The Flaming Lips, the album showcased Modest Mouse’s artistic integrity despite their growing popularity.
Earlier this year, Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, commemorated the album’s anniversary with Good News For People Who Love Bad News: 20th Anniversary Expanded Edition. The digital re-release features eight bonus tracks, including remixes from Poolside, Jacknife Lee, Dan the Automator, and MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden. The album has also been remastered for vinyl in opaque baby pink and opaque spring green, with an alternate album cover and five new remixes.
Fans can also dive into newly up-rezzed HD videos from the album’s original DualDisc DVD, including “The World At Large/Stiff Animal Fantasy,” directed by Jason Foster and Isaac Brock, and “Schoolhouse Brock – Modest Mouse On Trial,” an interview encapsulating Isaac Brock’s dry humor. The videos are available to stream on YouTube.
In addition to the tour, Modest Mouse will perform live with The Black Heart Procession at the Mission Ballroom in Denver, CO, on Monday, November 11, 2024. Doors open at 7:00 PM, with the show starting at 8:00 PM. Tickets for this special performance will also be available on Friday, August 23, at 10:00 AM via AXS.com.
