he popular indie rock band Mt. Joy is teaming up with Sharing Excess for an inspiring canned food drive initiative that will span their entire headline tour this summer and fall. Fans across the nation are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to Mt. Joy’s concerts, supporting local communities while enjoying the band’s electrifying performances.
With 23 headline shows scheduled, the tour kicked off in July and will run through the fall. Fans who bring food donations will not only contribute to a great cause but will also have the chance to win exclusive side-stage viewing for part of the concert. Together, Mt. Joy and Sharing Excess aim to collect 30,000 pounds of food, which will provide 25,000 meals for individuals and families in need across the country.
Exciting Hometown Show in Philadelphia
On Friday, September 20th, Mt. Joy will take the stage at The Mann Center in their hometown of Philadelphia, marking a special moment in the tour. Fans attending this hometown show are encouraged to bring canned goods, and volunteers from Sharing Excess will be stationed at designated entrances to collect donations. The collected food will benefit local hunger relief organizations, continuing the band's mission of giving back to the communities that have supported them.
Fans who bring donations to any show on the tour will be automatically entered for a chance to watch a portion of the concert from backstage, adding a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience to their evening. This initiative has already been well-received at shows across North America—from Berkeley to Bend, and Vancouver to Toronto—where food drives outside venues have made a tangible impact on communities far and wide.
“We’re incredibly excited to partner with Sharing Excess for this tour. It’s a fantastic opportunity to give back to the communities that have supported us over the years,” said Matt Quinn of Mt. Joy. “We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact we can make together.”
For those unable to attend the shows in person, Sharing Excess offers an opportunity to support the cause by donating online. A $20 contribution can provide meals for a week to a family in need.
Volunteer and Get a Free Ticket
Sharing Excess is also seeking volunteers to help collect food donations at each venue. As a thank you for their support, volunteers will receive free tickets to the shows. Interested individuals are encouraged to sign up and be part of this meaningful movement.
Mt. Joy’s partnership with Sharing Excess is a testament to the power of music and community working together to address food insecurity, ensuring that surplus food reaches those who need it most.
