Born out of the existential question, “am I a musician?” Nick Roesler looked inward and while studying composition with Dave King (The Bad Plus) created a collection of tracks that represents his personal musical preferences, with influences from ambient, rock, jazz, electronic, and cinematic styles.
Dave encouraged Nick to “challenge a trope in the genre,” and experiment with polytonality, melodic line shaping; while staying true to the musical expressions that felt authentic and exciting. “Having Dave King in my corner really elevated everything for me,” says Roesler.
While baritone guitar and keyboard were Nick’s main writing tools, along the way he stylized the tracks and arrangements by pulling from a sonic palate of diverse sounds ranging from haunting piano and echoing guitars to vintage synth, strings and various samples. Dave’s iconic drum performances add an unmistakable depth and interest to each track. Nick wrote, recorded, engineered and produced the record, J.T. Bates engineered the drum sessions, Brett Bullion mixed all tracks, and Huntley Miller handled mastering.
Ghosting a Funeral will take you on a journey, providing a unique soundtrack for fans of many musical tastes and backgrounds. Live performances to be announced.
